Summer Faith Adventure: Day 2
Welcome back to Day 2!
You’ll notice the craft and the snack are “stained glass windows.”
Wondering why?
Because they were an important part of the work of the “shepherds” during the early missionary growth of the Church. As the bishops and priests spread the Gospel into areas in which few people could read, and into areas with different languages, the first “books” they provided were often stained glass windows. The priests would preach the Gospel, and the windows were visual reminders of the stories of the faith, stories that were literally “built into” the Catholic Churches as constant and very visible reminders of the love of God.
Stained glass windows are a great example of how the Church presented the Gospel in as many ways as possible, to reach as many people as possible, as quickly as possible. The Bible is another example, which you’ll see explored in more depth in one of today’s videos.
